Now in Production….From  ‘The Axis of Evil Series’

Kim Jong Il…The Despot from the East

A One-Hour Documentary Directed by Yves  Billon Presented by Planet Group Entertainment

Pyongyang, North Korea, Spring-Summer 2003…Kim Jong Il, the despotic leader of the DPRK, Democratic People’s Republic of North Korea continues to rule supreme over what is perhaps the most suppressed society on the planet…with nuclear weapons and a highly active weapons industry supplying rogue governments and terrorist organizations with munitions all over the world. Yet the twenty million people of North Korea have been literally reduced to slavery and continue to starve.

After Saddam, Kim Jong Il is now next in line on the Axis of Evil list. No one knows what the outcome of the current conflict of statesmanship will be; none the less we feel it’s important to offer the world a portrait of the man and how he got to where he is.

Kim is supreme leader of the world’s last Stalinist diehard regime.

This photo has been not so subtly retouched in the style of 1950’s Maoist official art. It says a lot about the sixty-one year old leader of the world’s most physically, intellectually and financially undernourished country where propaganda and paranoia are the only daily bread.

Kim, ‘The Dear Leader’, took over the reins of the country from his father Kim Il-Sung, ‘The Great Leader’, in 1994. The cult of personality created by the father continues with the son.

Any tid-bit of information that leaks out to the west rouses curiosity about the man and his regime. Not only does Washington pounce on it, but South Korea, Japan, Europe….the entire planet perks up its ears.

Kim and Putin at a recent meeting.

Recently, his regime announced that the war with Iraq had shown that demands for arms verification were a pretext for war.  Kim is like a bad boy in a not-so-nice, do-as-you-please candy store…constantly provoking, stoking and inflaming the West.

Our portrait of Kim will touch on the amazing, historical string of circumstances that has allowed this nut to keep on pushing our buttons.

As with ‘Saddam…Master of Baghdad’, first in this Series, our strategy is based upon the building of a critical biography of ‘The Dear leader’ and his father.

Parades of military insanity and the ‘People’s Bread’!

With hours-deep archives from Paris, Moscow, Beijing and Pyongyang, we look at the events around which the political, economic and social evolution of North Korea took place.

Each ‘stage’ of this evolution will have its counterpart illustrated by our crew shooting for three weeks in North Korea early summer 2003. The people, the ‘silent majority’, will no doubt have little to say; but their daily lives and that which we can see of it, will say it all.

Interviews with persons recently escaped and in exile in South Korea, Japan and Europe will provide vivid testimony to the issues at hand as to what daily life is actually like.

Interviews with important political witnesses will provide perspective and shed light on how things in ‘The North’ got to such a mess…so completely severed from the real world.

The Bush Administration has placed Kim in the Axis of Evil, our biography will illustrate the whys and wherefores of that reasoning without passing judgment on the people of North Korea, who are indeed just victims derailed in a ‘bad train wreck’ with rational, democratic and modern world society.

Artistic references to the glories of a Stalinistic past continue to persist.
